I met an incredible artist recently named Chris Carty. The subject of most of his work is nature, but with a use of color that is supernatural. The plants leaves and flower petals that he depicts give off a phosphorescent glow.
I imagine this is what a rain forest would look like under a black light: vivid, psychedelic, other-worldly.
His work reminds me of Henri Rousseau and Paul Gauguin, which is why it is only fitting that his color pencil drawings are currently on display at Vincent’s Ear. Vincent’s Ear is located at 85 South Broadway in Nyack.
